Basis For Calculation
The calculations take into consideration the wind load affecting the surface of the tree crown, the material properties of green wood, and the stem's geometry.
The calculated wind load assumptions in treecalc are based on the current EN standard 1991-4-1/NA:2012-12. The material properties used for green wood are derived from all currently available sources, e.g., the 'Stuttgart Strength Catalog' (Wessolly & Erb 1998), extensive studies from England by Gwendolyne Lavers (Lavers 1983), the Wood Handbook (USDA Forestry Service 2010), as well as a data collection from Canada (Jessome 1977).
The influence of cavities, notches and openings in tree trunks on traffic safety can also be estimated using the beam theory (cf. Koizumi & Hirai 2006).
As a result, the calculated safety factor of the examined tree is displayed and, if pruning is a viable option, a pruning contour of the crown is also shown, including specific pruning parameters in meters and percentages. In cases where pruning would so severely impair the tree's vitality and long-term viability that its remaining lifespan would be shortened, felling is recommended.
Limitations
treecalc.com can only ever be a supplementary source of information in connection with a visual tree inspection. treecalc.com has been developed for experienced users who have had substantial training in arboriculture and, moreover, have basic knowledge of tree statics.
The method presented here for assessing tree safety assists the user in evaluating the fracture safety of free-standing trees with a diameter of 40 cm or more. The fracture safety of younger trees, trees in groups, or even forest stands cannot be reliably assessed using this method.
FAQ's - Frequently asked questions
How do I register to use TreeCalc.com?
After you have registered at treecalc.com you will receive an e-mail with a link to activate your account. What does treeclac.com cost?
When performing a calculation, one point (Calc) will be debited from your account. To generate a report that documents all entered parameters, three points (CalcsCalcsare calculated. When using the change of reference height feature, e.g., to calculate the impact of defects at a trunk height of several meters (e.g., woodpecker holes), an additional pointCalcis calculated.
These standardized points packages can be purchased:
- 29 €* 10 calcs
- 49 €* 18 calcs
- 99 €* 45 calcs * incl. 19% German VAT.
In accordance with legal requirements, no VAT is charged in cross-border intra-European service transactions if a valid Euro VAT is deposited. In all other cases, VAT is collected and included in the usage fee.
Who makes trecalc.com?
treecalc.com was developed by the arboricultural consulting firm Brudi & Partner-TreeConsult and is based on scientific research and findings.
treecalc.com is a current independent development. Other similar calculation methods may show different results. However, this fact alone does not elevate one method above another.
treecalc.com allows approximations to a real crown shape, which almost achieves the status of a wind load analysis.
How is payment processed?
Payment of the usage fees is made by credit card, Giropay or Sofortüberweisung via a secure connection to a payment portal provided by the service provider Heidelberger Payment GmbH in conjunction with HUELLEMANN & STRAUSS ONLINESERVICES S.à r.l., which is also regularly checked and processed for security vulnerabilities. Major customers can also purchase Calcs by invoice.
